Extremely helpful book
I've been sewing for decades, since my mum taught me at eight years old to make clothes for my dolls. I have dabbled in appliqué work before, but never enough to develop much skill. Several recent visits to Cornwall had me riveted by her designs. I knew I could probably attempt a lot of the items myself, although not with the same eye for lovely fabrics and colours. But the fresh combination of simple, quirky, fun designs, done in machine embroidery and appliqué, bowled me over. Her 'Learning to draw with your sewing machine' is a logically set-out, simple introduction to technique and materials that will inspire any beginner sewist to tackle a small project. She writes in a friendly, relaxed style, with abundant illustrations, that highlights the fun aspect of trying out both her step-by-step designs, and also your own as your confidence grows.

There are plenty of generalist 'how to' YouTube tutorials out there, but for my money, I prefer a book to keep handy and refer to when I'm getting to grips with a new technique. From a practical viewpoint, the pages are heavy enough to lie open at the correct page number while both hands are busy sewing. The instructions are detailed enough for a beginner to follow, but don't talk down to the more experienced amateur sewist: the ideal, mixed-ability instruction manual! The extra spark comes from Poppy's engaging enthusiasm for her sewing, and from the inspiration she draws from her surroundings. I'm pleased to have bought this book, the first on sewing techniques for absolutely ages, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Poppy's designs, and perhaps just needs a little nudge to see what they can achieve.

Book 2 inspiration
I bought the first book and found it very inspiring to start my freehand stitching adventure so I couldn't resist buying the new book along the same lines. Great projects and very useful hints and tips for every stage. Review by abigail / (Posted on 14/05/2015)
I am spending the week in St Ives on holiday and can't walk past your shop
without going in. I have recently started sewing and I find all of your
lovely designs very inspiring.

I have just bought your 2 books and can't wait to get home and try out all
of the pretty projects. The way you have designed and written the books is
very helpful and gorgeous to look through!

I have signed up for your newsletter so look forward to hearing more about
Poppy Treffry from now on! Review by Lisa / (Posted on 02/10/2014)
