Behind the scenes on our catalogue photo shoot

On Monday 2 March we took over the delightful Porthgwidden Beach Cafe in St Ives for our 2015 spring summer catalogue photo shoot. We left hailstorms and a forecast of gale force winds in Penzance for our old fashioned Cornish seaside holiday-themed shoot - just a few miles away in St Ives.

Luckily for us, St Ives seems to have its own special weather system and the sun shone all day long! A curious seagull even joined us for a bit of modelling on the beach.

Also luckily for us, the cafe is closed on Mondays in the winter, as we arrived with a huge suitcase of samples, moved all the furniture around, took pictures off the walls, filled the place with Poppy Treffry products, and generally made ourselves at home for the day.

Matt Jessop, our amazing and fearless photographer, balanced precariously on stairs, up ladders, and on the edge of a raised concrete walkway to capture the shots we needed. He even tried to rescue our mermaid birthday card as she flew out to sea after a failed attempt to take her photo on the beach.

And we got to review the photographs almost instantly via the wonders of modern technology.

We had lots of fun styling all the shots with Poppy's quirky props and, with just a quick break for a pasty, we raced the incoming tide and rather blustery conditions for our cover photo.

As the sun set, we walked through St Ives and captured some lovely pictures of the harbour and our shop in the evening light.

Special thanks have to go to Joanne, Porthgwidden Beach Cafe's manager, who came in on her day off, helped us take the place apart, and kept us fuelled with cups of coffee and cream teas.

We plan to go back soon and sample that salted caramel chocolate pot on the menu - mmmm mmm!
